Genital Culture, Routine
Also known as: Culture, Genital, Routine
Use
Isolate and identify potentially aerobic pathogenic organisms, including Gardnerella vaginalis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae; establish the diagnosis of gonorrhea in medicolegal cases.
Special Instructions
Specify the specimen source and pertinent clinical information on the request form. Specimens from other sources such as genital, stool, urine, upper and lower respiratory specimens cannot be cultured under this test number. If incorrectly submitted, the specimen will be processed based on the listed source without additional client approval. Check expiration dates on transport devices and avoid using expired ones.
Limitations
The test does not include detection for Trichomonas vaginalis, Chlamydia trachomatis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Mobiluncus species, or yeast speciation. For maternal Group B Streptococcus colonization antepartum screening, other specific tests are recommended. The limitations highlight that the test may not cover all potential pathogens or non-aerobic organisms.
