GM1 IgM Autoantibodies
Use
The BUHLMANN™ Anti-GM1 IgM ELISA is intended for the qualitative determination of human IgM autoantibodies directed against monosialotetrahexosylganglioside (GM1) in human serum.1
Special Instructions
This assay is not available in New York state. Separate serum from cells, transfer to a Labcorp PP transpak frozen purple tube with screw cap, and freeze immediately at ≤ -20°C until tested.
Limitations
Anti-GM1 IgM seropositivity supports but does not confirm MMN diagnosis. Seronegativity does not exclude it. IgM Anti-GM1 is also seen in other conditions such as Guillain-Barré syndrome, motor axonal neuropathy, and polyneuropathy. The test must be used with other clinical evaluations to confirm disease. It is not FDA-reviewed or approved.
