Use
Determine the number of international units (IU) of hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA per milliliter in serum or plasma in known HCV-positive patients
Special Instructions
Submit the patient's Social Security number for serial monitoring. To order this test without the serial monitor service, order Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), Quantitative, Real-time PCR (Nongraphical) [550080].
Limitations
The quantifiable range of the assay is 15 IU/mL to 100,000,000 IU/mL. Specimens with concentrations outside this range may not provide accurate quantitation. Incorrect specimen handling or storage can lead to rejection or inaccurate results.

Collection Instructions
Centrifuge sample within 24 hours of collection. Transfer serum/plasma to a screw-cap polypropylene transport tube. Ship frozen (preferred). Plasma from a PPT™ can be frozen and shipped in situ. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit a separate frozen specimen for each test requested.
Storage Instructions
Freeze (preferred) or refrigerate.
