Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), Quantitative, Real-time PCR (Nongraphical)
Also known as: HCV RNA Quantitation, TaqMan®
Use
Determine the number of international units (IU) of hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA per milliliter in serum or plasma in known HCV-positive patients
Special Instructions
This procedure does not provide serial monitoring; it is intended for one-time use only. If serial monitoring is required, please order Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), Quantitative, Real-time PCR (Graphical) [550070].
Limitations
The quantifiable range of the assay is 15 IU/mL to 100,000,000 IU/mL. Samples outside this range may not be accurately quantified, limiting the precision of measurements at extremely low or high viral loads. This assay is not intended for use as a diagnostic test for HCV infection, nor should it be used for standalone monitoring in the absence of clinical and lab evidence. Additionally, incorrect handling or anticoagulant use might affect the test results, leading to potential rejection of the sample.

Collection Instructions
Centrifuge sample within 24 hours of collection. Transfer serum/plasma to a screw-cap polypropylene transport tube. Ship frozen (preferred). Plasma from a PPT™ can be frozen and shipped in situ. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit a separate frozen specimen for each test requested.
Storage Instructions
Freeze (preferred) or refrigerate.
