HLA Class I Antibody and HLA Class II Antibody Screen
Also known as: HLA Antibody, PRA, HLA Class 1/2 Antibody, White Cell Antibody
Use
Solid organ transplantation
Special Instructions
Collect specimen prior to dialysis. Do not collect if the patient has received antithymocyte globulin, OKT3, or alemtuzumab (Campath®) recently, as these drugs may cause false-positive results.
Limitations
The test detects only antibodies of the IgG isotype and does not detect IgM antibodies, which are usually indicative of autoantibodies. This limits its ability to provide detailed information on the specificities of the antibodies against HLA molecules. Additionally, the results should be interpreted with caution as they may not provide a complete picture of the immunological risk related to solid organ transplantation.
