Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1) DNA Sequencing Protease−Reverse Transcriptase
Also known as: Cell-associated Viral DNA, HIV-1 Genotype, Resistance Analysis
Use
Detect resistance of HIV-1 to protease and reverse transcriptase inhibitors in cell-associated viral DNA.
Special Instructions
Collect specimen in lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Do not centrifuge. Ship frozen. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested. Testing schedules may vary, and additional time should be allowed for confirmatory or reflex tests.
Limitations
This procedure should be used for patients with documented HIV-1 infection and undetectable viral load or low level viremia. Careful interpretation of results is necessary, as the presence of resistance-associated mutations depends on several factors, including sampling time relative to antiretroviral therapy and the overall viral load.
