Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1) GenoSure® Integrase
Also known as: HIV-1 Genotype, Resistance Testing, Retroviral Genotype
Use
Detect resistance of HIV-1 to antiretroviral drugs only in the integrase class.
Special Instructions
Submit a separate frozen specimen for each test requested to avoid delays in turnaround time when multiple tests are requested. Use lavender-top (EDTA) or plasma preparation tube (PPT™) for collection. Do not use green-top (heparin) tubes as it leads to specimen rejection.
Limitations
The procedure may not be successful when the HIV viral load is less than 500 copies/mL plasma. If there is insufficient virus, HIV-1 RNA quantitation will be performed to confirm viral load, which will result in an additional charge at the account's prevailing fee. Samples at room temperature for more than 24 hours also cause specimen rejection, and improper centrifugation of PPT™ can lead to unsuccessful processing.

Collection Instructions
Collect specimen in three lavender-top (EDTA) tubes or three PPT™ tubes. Centrifuge within six hours of collection. Transfer plasma to screw-cap polypropylene transport tubes. Snap-cap or pop-top tubes may result in rejection. Freeze immediately at -20°C. Do not place on dry ice until completely frozen. Ship frozen.
Storage Instructions
Freeze.
Causes for Rejection
Use of green-top (heparin) tube; hemolysis; PPT™ not centrifuged; specimen at room temperature for more than 24 hours
