Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1), Quantitative, Real-time PCR (Graphical) With Reflex to HIV-1 PhenoSense GT® Plus Integrase
Also known as: HIV-1 Plasma Viremia, HIV-1 RNA by Real-time PCR, Quantitative, Reflex to PhenoSense GT® Plus Integrase, Viral Load
Use
Detect and quantitate HIV-1 in plasma with reflex to PhenoSense GT® Plus Integrase (at additional charge) if viral load is >500 copies/mL.
Special Instructions
A separate frozen specimen is essential for the PhenoSense GT® Plus Integrase reflex test. For accurate viral load results, use either a refrigerated or a frozen sample. Promptly centrifuge and transfer plasma to a polypropylene screw-cap tube within six hours of collection to ensure sample integrity.
Limitations
The assay has a dynamic range from 20 to 10,000,000 copies/mL. Results outside this range may not be quantified accurately. The use of green-top (heparin) tubes affects the integrity of the sample, leading to potential rejection. Repeat testing may be compromised if specimen volume is insufficient.
Methodology
PCR-based (qPCR)

Collection Instructions
Collect specimen in three lavender-top (EDTA) tubes or three PPT™ tubes. Centrifuge within six hours, transfer plasma to screw-cap tubes and freeze. Use separate frozen samples for each test requested.
Storage Instructions
Freeze. Preferred frozen for viral load assay; stable at room temperature for one day or refrigerated for five days.
Causes for Rejection
Hemolysis; green-top (heparin) tube; specimen received in 'pop-top' or 'snap-cap' tube; quantity not sufficient for analysis; frozen PPT™
