Mitotane, Serum or Plasma
Also known as: Lysodren®
Use
Therapeutic drug management
Special Instructions
Serum or plasma samples need to be separated from cells within two hours of venipuncture and transferred to a plastic transport tube. This step is critical to prevent any alteration in the sample integrity that could affect test accuracy. Gel-barrier tubes are not acceptable, indicating the necessity for strict adherence to the specified tube types for collection.
Limitations
The test relies on gas chromatography/flame ionization detection which is precise for measuring mitotane levels; however, it may not detect metabolites. Volatile compounds or improper sample handling, such as using gel-barrier tubes, could lead to inaccurate results. The minimum volume of 0.5 mL is crucial for test processing, and insufficient volume could result in rejection or delayed processing.
