Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Rectal Swab, NAA
Also known as: Gonococcus, Amplicor® PCR, Gonococcus, Aptima® TMA, Gonococcus, ProbeTec™ SDA
Use
Detect Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Special Instructions
Submit one specimen per test requested. Specify the exact specimen source/origin (e.g., rectal). Indicate a specific test number on the test request form. The collection involves using a blue-shafted swab labeled 'unisex collection swab for endocervical and male urethral specimens.' It is important to follow the prescribed collection instructions to ensure accurate results. Avoid using swabs other than those provided by the Aptima kit.
Limitations
The test may not have adequate sensitivity for detecting Neisseria gonorrhoeae if the specimen collection procedure is not followed accurately. Bacterial swabs or specimens from inappropriate sites can lead to false-negative results. Swabs or transport tubes that are not part of the Gen-Probe® Aptima® kit may also lead to inaccurate results. Additionally, specimens older than 60 days or with discrepancies between the specimen label and test request form may be rejected.
