NMR LipoProfile® With Lipids (Without Graph)
Also known as: Cholesterol, Lipoprotein Analysis (LDL-P, HDL-P, LDL Size), Expanded
Use
NMR LDL-P is a management tool used in appropriate high-risk patients (type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, CVD risk equivalent, statin-treated patients) to adjudicate response to treatment and guide adjustment in therapy. It is used in conjunction with other lipid measurements and clinical evaluation to aid in the management of lipoprotein disorders associated with cardiovascular disease.
Special Instructions
Patient should be fasting for eight hours before specimen collection. Collection should be done using the preferred NMR LipoTube (black-and-yellow-top tube), but plain red-top tube, lavender-top (EDTA-no gel) tube, or green-top (heparin-no gel) tube are also acceptable. Ensure the specimen is refrigerated and shipped with frozen cool packs.
Limitations
If the triglyceride level is greater than 800 mg/dL, LDL cholesterol will not be calculated. Specimens that are unspun, contaminated with red cells, stored at room temperature for over 24 hours, or older than six days, as well as those received in inappropriate containers, will be rejected. The test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA.
