Ovarian Function Profile II
Use
The Ovarian Function Profile II test is used to evaluate endocrine function related to ovarian activity. It examines a panel of hormones that are important for assessing ovarian reserve, hypothalamic-pituitary axis function, and overall hormonal balance. This profile includes tests for Estradiol, Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Prolactin, Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Free Thyroxine Index (FTI), T3 Uptake (THBR), and Thyroxine (T4). These hormone levels help in diagnosing conditions such as infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome, and menopause.
Special Instructions
Patients should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample. This is important because high doses of biotin (vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R) can interfere with certain laboratory tests, leading to potentially inaccurate results.
Limitations
The Ovarian Function Profile II may be subject to limitations due to interference from external substances such as biotin. The presence of interfering substances can lead to inaccurate test results. Additionally, this profile does not include all hormones related to ovarian function and does not provide a comprehensive assessment of all aspects of reproductive health. The results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history and physical examination.
