Penicilloyl G
Use
The Penicilloyl G test is designed to detect IgE antibodies specific to Penicilloyl G, a major determinant in penicillin allergies. This test is used to evaluate patients who are suspected to have an allergic reaction to penicillin. Detecting specific IgE antibodies can assist clinicians in diagnosing penicillin allergies and help in managing patient treatment plans, particularly when alternative antibiotics might need to be considered.
Special Instructions
Ensure that the specimen is collected in a red-top or a gel-barrier tube and the collected serum volume should be at least 0.2 mL. The specimen should be stored at room temperature, refrigerated, or frozen based on the stability requirements to prevent degradation before testing.
Limitations
The presence of IgE antibodies to Penicilloyl G may not always correlate with a clinical allergy to penicillin, and false positives may occur. Cross-reactivity with other substances could potentially influence the test results. This test should be used as part of a comprehensive evaluation that includes clinical history and other diagnostic tests to confirm penicillin allergy.
