PrEP, Male, Oral Baseline + HIV RNA
Also known as: HIV, PrEP, Prophylaxis
Use
This profile aligns with current guidelines for assessment of male patients prior to the initiation of oral HIV PrEP.
Special Instructions
The profile requires a dedicated, unopened, gel-barrier tube and 2 frozen (preferred) or refrigerated serum pour-off tubes. Patients must be asked about biotin supplementation as it can interfere with the tests. It is recommended to stop biotin consumption 72 hours prior to sample collection.
Limitations
Results of HIV p24 antigen/antibody testing must be confirmed by additional tests if reactive. Negative results do not rule out HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 infection due to potential low marker quantity or absence during disease stages. GFR estimates based on serum creatinine may be inaccurate for patients at muscle mass extremes, with unusual diets, or conditions affecting creatinine secretion or elimination.
Methodology
PCR-based (RT-PCR)
