Prostate-specific Antigen (PSA), Free:Total Ratio Reflex (Serial Monitor)
Use
The Prostate-specific Antigen (PSA), Free:Total Ratio Reflex test is used for serial monitoring in prostate cancer management. It measures levels of PSA in the serum, which is a protein produced by prostate cells. Monitoring the levels of total and percent free PSA can help in evaluating the presence or progression of prostate cancer. A decrease in PSA levels post-radical prostatectomy is expected, and an elevation could indicate biochemical recurrence.
Special Instructions
The account must submit the patient's Social Security number to monitor. Values obtained with different assay methods should not be used interchangeably in serial testing. It is recommended that only one assay method be used consistently to monitor each patient's course of therapy. To order this test without the serial monitor service, use test 480772.
Limitations
Values obtained with different assay methods or kits cannot be used interchangeably. Results cannot be interpreted as absolute evidence of the presence or absence of malignant disease. The test results are influenced by various factors, including assay variability and patient-specific factors.
