Rheumatoid Factor, IgM by EIA (RDL)
Use
EIA methods have the added advantage of being able to simultaneously detect RF of IgG and IgA subclasses in addition to RF IgM and are not susceptible to prozone. It has become apparent that the specificity and predictive value of the RF test is substantially increased by the detection of all three RF isotypes.
Special Instructions
To avoid delays in turnaround time, separate serum from cells within one hour of collection and transfer to a plastic transport tube before shipping. For multiple tests on frozen samples, submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
Limitations
The test may not be suitable for specimens that are grossly hemolyzed, contaminated with bacteria, lipemic, icteric, or non-serum in type. The precision and accuracy of the result could be compromised in such cases. It is also not susceptible to the prozone effect which can affect certain serological tests.
