Salmon
Use
This test measures specific IgE antibodies to salmon in the serum, which can indicate an allergic reaction to salmon. It is used to support the diagnosis of a salmon allergy in individuals displaying clinical symptoms suggestive of an IgE-mediated food allergy. The presence of IgE antibodies to salmon can help healthcare providers identify individuals who may need to avoid salmon in their diet to prevent allergic reactions.
Special Instructions
Ensure the specimen is collected in a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. The stability of the specimen is maintained for up to 14 days at room temperature and refrigerated, and for up to 3 months if frozen. Stability through three freeze/thaw cycles is confirmed.
Limitations
This test specifically measures IgE antibodies related to salmon and does not account for potential cross-reactivity with other allergens. Results must be interpreted in conjunction with clinical symptoms, as elevated IgE levels alone do not confirm an allergy. False positives can occur, and factors like medication and recent exposure can influence results.
