Use
This test is used to detect specific IgE antibodies to trout allergens in serum. It aids in the diagnosis of allergic diseases such as asthma, rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis by assessing the likelihood of an IgE-mediated reaction to trout. The test results can help in managing dietary recommendations and allergy treatment plans, but must be correlated with clinical history and other allergy test results for accurate diagnosis.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure accurate test results. Serum must be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. For multiple allergen orders, refer to 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' available on the ARUP website for additional guidance.
Limitations
The concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies may not correlate directly with the degree of clinical response. A negative test does not rule out a potential allergy. Results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L are clinically undetermined and intended for specialist interpretation. The correlation with in vivo challenges or skin testing can vary; thus, clinical history must be considered.
