Use
The Allergen‑Specific IgE to Tilapia test is used to detect sensitization to tilapia proteins by measuring specific immunoglobulin E antibodies. A positive result indicates an immune response (sensitization), which along with clinical context may assist clinicians in diagnosing or ruling out allergy to tilapia. Only a healthcare provider can confirm a clinical allergy; the test alone does not determine severity or clinical outcome.
Special Instructions
Ordering typically requires a serum specimen; no special patient preparation. If not ordering electronically, an Allergen Test Request form (e.g., T236) may be required. Performing laboratory is Viracor‑Eurofins; set up Monday through Friday with reports available approximately three days after specimen receipt.
Limitations
This assay was developed and validated under CLIA and has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Sensitization (positive specific IgE) does not confirm clinical allergy; results should be interpreted alongside history, physical findings, and potentially other diagnostic tests.
