Thyroid Profile II, Comprehensive
Also known as: Thyroid Profile D (Comprehensive)
Use
The Thyroid Profile II, Comprehensive test is used to assess thyroid function by measuring several thyroid-related hormones. These hormones include Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Thyroxine (T4), Tri-iodothyronine (T3), and indices that help in the diagnosis and management of thyroid disorders such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Evaluating these markers in combination gives a comprehensive view of thyroid activity and can assist healthcare providers in diagnosing and managing patients with thyroid dysfunctions.
Special Instructions
This test might be affected by the consumption of supplements containing high doses of biotin (vitamin B7/Vitamin H). It is advised that patients discontinue biotin supplementation at least 72 hours prior to sample collection to avoid interference with test results.
Limitations
Test results can be influenced by biotin supplementation, which may lead to interference. This test specifically evaluates only the stated thyroid-related hormones and does not encompass other potential causes of thyroid dysfunction. Additional testing might be required for a more comprehensive evaluation.
