Troponin T (Highly Sensitive)
Also known as: Cardiac Troponin T
Use
Immunoassay for the in vitro quantitative determination of cardiac troponin T (cTnT) in lithium heparin plasma. The immunoassay is intended to aid in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction.
Special Instructions
This test may interfere with samples from individuals consuming high doses of biotin. It is advised to ask patients about biotin supplementation and recommend stopping its consumption at least 72 hours prior to sample collection. Additionally, samples showing hemolysis can affect results.
Limitations
While highly specific to cardiac tissue, elevated troponin T levels can be found in conditions other than myocardial infarction (MI), including myocarditis, heart failure, and pulmonary embolism. Serial measurement is recommended to differentiate between acute and chronic elevations. Hemolysis and high biotin doses may interfere with assay results.
