Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) Culture Only
Also known as: VRE, Culture Only
Use
Detect colonization of patients and staff in hospitals and nursing homes with vancomycin-resistant enterococci during an outbreak of nosocomial infection
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
This test should not be used to establish a diagnosis in the case of infection. While the culture method is effective for detecting colonization, it may not provide adequate sensitivity for the detection of low levels of organisms. Consequently, a negative result does not rule out the possibility of VRE presence, especially in early stages of colonization or low-density carriage states.
