Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV), Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), DNA PCR
Use
This assay is used for the detection of Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) DNA in cerebrospinal fluid.
Special Instructions
To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen sample, separate specimens should be submitted for each test requested.
Limitations
Results from this test must be considered in conjunction with clinical history, epidemiological data, and other laboratory information. Negative results do not exclude VZV infections of the CNS, and test results must not be used as the sole basis for treatment decisions. False-negatives may occur if the virus is present below the assay's sensitivity or has genomic mutations affecting detection.
