A1 Antigen Subtype, Blood
Use
This test is used to determine the A1 antigen subtype in patients, which assists in assessing alloantibody specificity and solid organ transplantation donor compatibility. By identifying the presence or absence of this antigen, clinicians can make informed decisions regarding transfusion and transplantation strategies. However, this test is not useful for establishing paternity as it doesn't determine genetic lineage or parentage.
Special Instructions
Specimen must arrive within 7 days of collection. The test is performed Monday through Friday and Sunday.
Limitations
This test cannot be used to establish paternity and is limited to determining the presence or absence of the A1 antigen only. It does not identify any potential genetic mutations or offer a comprehensive blood antigen profile. Factors such as improper specimen collection, handling, or selection could lead to diagnostic confusion or inaccurate results.
