ABO/Rh Newborn, Blood
Use
The ABO and Rh typing is crucial for the selection of compatible blood products for transfusion therapy and determining the need for Rh immune globulin therapy in the mother of a newborn. It involves detecting two of the various blood group systems, primarily used in the selection of appropriate ABO/Rh type blood for transfusions and in assessing mother's candidacy for Rh immune globulin therapy.
Special Instructions
Weak D testing is performed on all Rh-negative babies. It is essential to ensure the collected blood is mixed well by inverting several times and sent in the original tube without aliquoting.
Limitations
The test has no significant limitations mentioned, but improper specimen collection and handling could potentially lead to erroneous results.
