Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), Specified FISH, Varies
Use
The AML Specified FISH test is particularly useful for detecting recurrent chromosome abnormalities associated with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It serves as an adjunct to conventional chromosome studies in patients with AML and is employed in evaluating specimens where chromosome studies are unsuccessful. The test is also utilized for identifying and tracking known chromosome abnormalities in AML patients, monitoring therapy response, and is not intended as a panel test. Specific probes must be specified in the order request field to ensure appropriate testing.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
This test is not FDA-approved and is best used as an adjunct to clinical and pathologic information. It does not substitute for conventional chromosome studies that may detect other abnormalities undetectable by AML FISH. Bone marrow is the preferred specimen type, but if unavailable, blood with circulating myeloblasts may also be used. If no FISH signals are observed post-hybridization, results will indicate a lack of FISH results.
