Adenovirus Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for the identification of adenovirus infection. Adenoviruses are nonenveloped, regular icosahedron pathogens containing double-stranded DNA. They are often associated with respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses as well as conjunctivitis. The test involves the technical component only of immunohistochemical staining to identify adenovirus presence in tissue.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. It should not be ordered with pathology consultation (PATHC), as those orders will be canceled. Clients ordering manually will not have access to digital images; electronic ordering is required for access.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. Age and handling of paraffin sections can affect immunoreactivity, requiring sections to be prepared with care. The type of slide and how they are stored can impact results due to changes in slide surface chemistry.
