Albuterol, Serum/Plasma
Use
This test is used to determine the presence and concentration of albuterol in serum or plasma. Albuterol is a bronchodilator that is commonly used in the treatment of asthma and other respiratory conditions. Understanding the concentration of albuterol in the blood can be critical for ensuring effective dosage and avoiding toxicity, especially in patients with altered pharmacokinetics due to underlying health conditions or concurrent medications.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be submitted individually for each order; they cannot be shared between multiple orders. Label specimens appropriately as 'serum' or 'plasma'.
Limitations
Test results may vary significantly depending on the dose, formulation, route of administration, device used for administration, lung function, and individual mechanics of usage. Specimens collected in serum gel tubes or plasma gel tubes are not acceptable and will be rejected.
