Alpha/Beta Crystallin IHC, Technical Component Only
Use
The test is useful for characterization of neuroectodermal tumors by identifying the presence of alpha-beta crystallin, a lens protein and a member of the superfamily of small heat shock proteins. This protein is expressed in various tissues and inclusion bodies, which can be indicative of certain disease states.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain without pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with PATHC, and if ordered together, the technical component will be canceled. Digital images are available only for electronic orders.
Limitations
The performance of the test is limited by the age of the paraffin section, which can affect immunoreactivity. Environmental factors may alter the charge of glass slides, affecting staining results. The stability of slide sections varies widely, and precautions should be taken to limit exposure to humidity, heat, and prolonged storage.
