Use
This test is useful for the identification of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) expression, which aids in the diagnosis of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor and anaplastic large cell lymphoma. ALK expression, resulting from translocation involving the ALK1 gene, can help in delineating these conditions in clinical settings.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the immunohistochemical (IHC) stain; it does not include pathologist interpretation. If ordered with a pathology consultation (PATHC), the technical component stains will be canceled. Appropriate bill-only tests are reflexed and charged based on test performance.
Limitations
This test does not provide pathologist interpretation, focusing solely on stain performance. Interpretation should be performed in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist. Factors such as age and storage conditions of paraffin sections may affect immunoreactivity.
