Apixaban, Anti-Xa, Plasma
Use
Measurement of apixaban concentration is useful in selected clinical situations such as renal insufficiency, assessment of compliance, periprocedural drug concentration measurement, suspected overdose, advanced age, and extremes of body weight ([mayocliniclabs.com](https://www.mayocliniclabs.com/test-catalog/overview/65848?utm_source=openai))
Special Instructions
This assay is not indicated for monitoring low‑molecular‑weight heparin (LMWH) or unfractionated heparin (UFH); their presence will falsely elevate apixaban anti‑Xa levels. The assay is optimized to measure apixaban concentration in presence of andexanet alfa ([mayocliniclabs.com](https://www.mayocliniclabs.com/test-catalog/overview/65848?utm_source=openai))
Limitations
Routine monitoring of apixaban is not indicated. Therapeutic reference ranges have not been established, though peak and trough concentrations from clinical trials are available. The lower limit of detection is 10 ng/mL. Apixaban concentration may be affected by drug interactions and impaired liver or kidney function ([mayocliniclabs.com](https://www.mayocliniclabs.com/test-catalog/overview/65848?utm_source=openai))
