Apple, IgE, Serum
Use
This test is used to establish the diagnosis of an allergy to apples and to define the allergen responsible for eliciting symptoms. It assists in identifying allergens responsible for allergic responses or anaphylactic episodes, confirming sensitization before immunotherapy, and investigating the specificity of allergic reactions to various allergens.
Special Instructions
For ordering, refer to Allergens - Immunoglobulin E (IgE) Antibodies. For multiple allergens, ensure necessary volume is submitted. Complete and send an Allergen Test Request form if not ordering electronically.
Limitations
Testing for IgE antibodies is not useful in patients previously treated with immunotherapy to determine if residual clinical sensitivity exists or in patients where medical management doesn't depend on identifying allergen specificity. False-positive results may occur in patients with elevated serum IgE due to nonspecific binding.
