Arginase-1 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Arginase-1 is a urea cycle metalloenzyme specifically expressed in hepatocytes, serving as a crucial marker in identifying and differentiating hepatocellular carcinoma within an antibody panel context. It aids in distinguishing hepatocellular carcinoma from metastatic carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma, making it valuable in clinical settings where accurate tumor identification and classification are necessary. This IHC stain is utilized as part of a diagnostic panel to enhance the sensitivity and specificity of hepatocellular carcinoma detection, helping pathologists provide precise diagnoses.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not provide a pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation as they will be canceled. The immunohistochemistry (IHC)/in situ hybridization (ISH) staining may be performed at the reviewing pathologist's discretion if ordered with PATHC, potentially incurring additional charges. Shipping requires attaching the green pathology address label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label to the transport container, and electronic ordering is necessary for access to digital images.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation and is limited to the technical performance of the immunohistochemistry stain. The interpretation requires a qualified pathologist to consider clinical history and other diagnostic tests. Factors such as the age of cut paraffin sections and environmental conditions affecting glass slide charges can influence immunoreactivity and result consistency. Stability thresholds vary and best practices dictate paraffin sections be cut within 6 weeks, minimizing exposure to humidity and heat to maintain positive slide charge integrity.
