Aspergillus niger, IgE, Serum
Use
The Aspergillus niger, IgE, Serum test is useful for establishing a diagnosis of an allergy to Aspergillus niger. It helps in defining the allergen responsible for eliciting symptoms and identifying allergens responsible for allergic responses or anaphylactic episodes. Furthermore, it can confirm sensitization prior to starting immunotherapy and investigate the specificity of allergic reactions to various allergens. However, it is not useful for patients already treated with immunotherapy where the medical management doesn't depend on identifying allergen specificity.
Special Instructions
For proper order fulfillment, complete the Allergen Test Request Form (T236) if not ordering electronically. Ensure serum is centrifuged and aliquoted into a plastic vial. A minimum volume of 0.3 mL is required for one allergen, with adjustments for multiple allergens.
Limitations
The test might not be useful in patients with clinically insignificant sensitivity to allergens, as measurable IgE levels do not always indicate significant allergic potential. False positives may occur in patients with high serum IgE levels due to nonspecific binding. Testing is not recommended for assessing residual clinical sensitivity post-immunotherapy, as the results may not reflect current allergen-specific sensitivity.
