Avocado IgG
Use
The clinical utility of food-specific IgG tests such as Avocado IgG has not been fully established. These tests can aid in special clinical situations to select foods for diet elimination and challenge in patients presenting with food-related complaints. However, the presence of food-specific IgG should not be considered as evidence of an allergy. It indicates immunologic sensitization by the food allergen in question, and test ordering should be limited to physicians who are aware of its limitations.
Special Instructions
This test should only be ordered by physicians familiar with the limitations associated with food-specific IgG testing.
Limitations
This test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA and is not available for NY State clients. The results should not be considered as definitive evidence of food allergies or intolerances, and they should be interpreted in conjunction with patient history and other clinical findings. Reference ranges are not established for food-specific IgG tests.
