B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia/Lymphoma (ALL), Specified FISH, Varies
Use
This test is useful for detecting recurrent common chromosome abnormalities associated with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (B-ALL/LBL) and Philadelphia chromosome-like acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-like ALL) using client-specified probe set(s). It serves as an adjunct to conventional chromosome studies in patients with B-ALL/LBL and is used for evaluating specimens in which chromosome studies are unsuccessful. Additionally, this test helps in identifying and tracking known chromosome abnormalities in patients with B-ALL and monitoring response to therapy.
Special Instructions
This test requires a list of probes requested for analysis to be specified on the ordering request. If targeted FISH probes are not included, test processing will be delayed and may be canceled or automatically reordered. Specific probes must be listed in the probe request field. If no FISH signals are observed post-hybridization, the case will be released indicating a lack of FISH results.
Limitations
This test should not be used to screen for residual B-ALL/LBL. It is not approved by the US FDA and is intended as an adjunct to clinical and pathologic information. FISH is not a substitute for conventional chromosome studies because it detects only chromosome abnormalities targeted by the B-ALL panel or selected probes. Bone marrow is the preferred specimen type. If bone marrow is not available, blood specimen with neoplastic cells may be used.
