Bass Black (Sea Bass) (Centropristis striata) IgE
Use
The Bass Black (Sea Bass) IgE test is used to evaluate allergic sensitization to the Black Sea Bass (Centropristis striata). IgE antibodies are produced by the immune system in response to allergies. This test is particularly useful for individuals suspected of having allergic reactions to seafood, especially those who have experienced allergic symptoms after consuming or being exposed to sea bass. The result of the test will determine the presence and level of IgE antibodies specific to sea bass, aiding clinicians in diagnosing potential allergic conditions and guiding dietary restrictions or therapeutic decisions.
Special Instructions
This test is performed Monday through Friday. Samples must be processed and sent refrigerated to preserve their integrity. For institutional clients, ensure coordination with the laboratory's daily schedule to optimize processing times. Note that results are typically available within 4 to 7 days from receipt at the laboratory.
Limitations
The Bass Black IgE test may not detect all individuals sensitized to sea bass due to variability in individual immune responses. Cross-reactivity with other fish species may occur, potentially leading to false-positive results. The sensitivity of the assay may be affected by gross lipemia in the sample, necessitating careful specimen handling and selection. The test is not diagnostic of clinical allergy but should be correlated with patient history and other clinical findings. It is also important to consider false negatives due to low antibody concentrations or other technical factors.
