Benzodiazepines Confirmation, Random, Urine
Use
This test is useful for detecting drug use involving benzodiazepines such as alprazolam, chlordiazepoxide, clonazepam, diazepam, and other related compounds. Benzodiazepines are drugs frequently prescribed in western countries due to their efficacy, safety, minimal side effects, and demand for sedative agents. This test can detect parent drugs and their metabolites to support clinical assessments of benzodiazepine use or abuse.
Special Instructions
For situations requiring chain of custody, a specific Chain-of-Custody Kit (T282) should be ordered. Additionally, if urine creatinine measurement is desired or sample adulteration is suspected, order the ADULT / Adulterants Survey, Random, Urine alongside this test.
Limitations
This test may not detect all metabolites of benzodiazepines if sample integrity is compromised, such as through hemolysis or icterus. Moreover, STAT requests are not accepted, potentially affecting clinical turnaround time for urgent assessments. The extensive metabolism of benzodiazepines might result in the non-detection of the parent compound, presenting challenges in interpretation of low concentrations.
