Budgerigar Feathers, IgE, Serum
Use
This test is useful for establishing a diagnosis of an allergy to Budgerigar feathers by detecting specific IgE antibodies. It helps define the allergen responsible for eliciting allergic symptoms, confirming sensitization prior to immunotherapy, and investigating allergic reactions to various allergens. It is not useful for determining residual clinical sensitivity after immunotherapy treatment or when clinical management does not depend on the identification of allergen specificity.
Special Instructions
This test requires a blood sample to be collected and processed properly. Complete and submit the Allergen Test Request form if not ordering electronically. It is important to follow the specimen instructions carefully to ensure accurate results.
Limitations
The test results must be interpreted in the context of clinical findings. Detection of IgE antibodies indicates an increased likelihood of allergic disease, but false positives may occur, especially in patients with very high serum IgE levels. Some individuals with low clinical sensitivity may still have measurable IgE levels. High IgE levels in serum may cause nonspecific binding and potentially false-positive results.
