C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute-phase reactant associated with host defense that promotes agglutination and complement fixation. It is used with a panel of immunohistochemical markers to distinguish hepatic adenoma from focal nodular hyperplasia and non-neoplastic liver. CRP, along with amyloid A, is overexpressed in inflammatory (type 3) hepatic adenoma and may stain hepatocytes in nonneoplastic liver tissue in areas of nonspecific inflammation.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not provide pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as they will be canceled if ordered together. Attach the green pathology address label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label included in the kit to the transport container.
Limitations
This test does not include a pathologist's interpretation, and the results should be evaluated in the context of the patient's clinical history by a qualified pathologist. Age of the paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity. Consistency in slide staining may be affected by environmental factors such as humidity and charge of glass slides, which emphasizes the importance of adhering to best practices for slide storage.
