C-Reactive Protein, High Sensitivity, Serum
Use
This test is useful for assessing the risk of developing myocardial infarction in patients presenting with acute coronary syndromes and the risk of developing cardiovascular disease or ischemic events in individuals without current disease manifestations. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a biomarker of inflammation, and high-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) provides more precise baseline measurements to evaluate chronic inflammation, a known factor in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
Special Instructions
This assay should be used for cardiovascular disease risk assessment. For monitoring or assessing other inflammatory disorders, order CRP / C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Serum. Ensure proper specimen collection, handling, and adherence to instructions for accurate results. Fill out the Cardiovascular Test Request Form when not ordering electronically.
Limitations
The test is meant for cardiovascular risk assessment only. Due to CRP's variability, repeat measurements may be needed to establish basal hs-CRP levels, using the lowest measurement as a predictive value. CRP measurements may not reflect true basal levels if inflammation is present. Samples treated with carboxypenicillins may show significantly decreased CRP values.
