Carcinoembryonic Antigen, Monoclonal Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a marker used in the detection of the epithelial cells of colonic adenocarcinoma and normal colon tissues. In tissue sections of normal colon, CEA is primarily localized at the apical border of the epithelial cells. Monoclonal CEA antibodies label the epithelium of colonic adenocarcinomas, normal adult colonic mucosa, and normal gastric foveolar mucus-producing cells. This technical component is used to provide immunohistochemical staining only without pathologist interpretation.
Special Instructions
The test is for the technical performance of immunohistochemical (IHC) stains only and excludes pathologist interpretation. Pathology consultation service is recommended for interpretation. Stains ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation will be canceled and technical components ordered separately at pathologist discretion at an additional charge.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation. Pathologists should perform interpretation in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests. Age of paraffin sections may affect immunoreactivity, often necessitating cutting sections within 6 weeks. Environmental factors affecting the charge of glass slides may interfere with staining results.
