Cashew Component rAna o 3
Use
The Cashew Component rAna o 3 test is used to assess IgE-mediated allergic reactions to cashew nuts by measuring specific IgE antibodies against the component rAna o 3. It serves to identify patients at risk for systemic allergic reactions due to cashew consumption and aids in the differential diagnosis of cashew allergies, distinguishing between true allergies and cross-reactivity due to other allergens.
Special Instructions
The test requires specific specimen handling procedures. It is important to properly draw and handle the blood specimen to ensure accuracy. The serum must be sent refrigerated and properly labeled as per the collection instructions to avoid delays and ensure timely processing.
Limitations
This test is specific to the IgE antibodies against the cashew component rAna o 3, and cross-reactivity with other nut allergens can occur. It does not measure sensitization to other components of cashew or other nuts, and results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic findings. False negatives or false positives can occur; confirmation through additional testing or clinical correlation is recommended.
