CD11c Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for aiding in the diagnosis of hematological malignancies and identification of cells of the macrophage/dendritic cell lineage within tissues. CD11c is involved in adherence to activated endothelial cells and complement-mediated phagocytosis. It is normally expressed on histiocytes and monocytes, weakly expressed on granulocytes, and also expressed on certain B cell neoplasms, including hairy cell leukemia and splenic marginal zone lymphoma.
Special Instructions
This test includes only technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Attach the green pathology address label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label included in the kit to the outside of the transport container. Clients wishing to access digital images must place the order for IHC stains electronically.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity. Stability thresholds vary widely among published literature and are antigen dependent. The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors, which may alter slide staining. Best practices for storage of positively charged slides include minimizing time stored after unpacking, limiting exposure to high humidity and heat, and minimizing exposure to plastics.
