CD123 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD123 Immunostaining is useful as a marker for plasmacytoid dendritic cells, mast cells, and megakaryocytes. It also plays a crucial role in distinguishing blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm from acute monocytic leukemia. The CD123 antigen, part of the IL3 receptor complex, is involved in cellular growth and differentiation. This test assists in identifying increased numbers of plasmacytoid monocytes in conditions like Kikuchi lymphadenitis, helping in diagnostic processes.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not include pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation; if ordered together, the technical component stains will be canceled. Digital images of the stain are available if orders are placed electronically, and guidance for access is available on the website. The green pathology address label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label should be used for shipping.
Limitations
The test does not provide a pathologist interpretation, only the technical component of the stain. Age of the paraffin section and environmental factors affecting glass slide charge can affect staining consistency. Paraffin sections are best cut within 6 weeks for optimal results. Non-compatible sample types like wet/frozen tissue and non-positively charged slides may result in rejection. CD123 expression can also vary across certain conditions and literature, highlighting the importance of paired clinical history and diagnostic information for correct interpretation.
