CD13 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD13, also known as cluster of differentiation 13, serves key functions in peptide metabolism, particularly within brush border membranes of the small intestine, renal proximal tubules, and placenta. It plays a crucial role in cell growth, differentiation, and phagocytosis. CD13 is typically expressed on myeloid lineage cells, including granulocytes and monocytes, and is found on certain non-hematolymphoid cells such as endothelial cells and fibroblasts, as well as in a soluble form in plasma. This immunostain is a valuable marker for identifying myeloid lineage, particularly in the context of acute leukemias.
Special Instructions
This test is designated for the technical performance of the stain only and does not include pathologist interpretation. Pathologist interpretation should be independently ordered through a Pathology Consultation (PATHC). If ordered alongside PATHC, the technical component stain will be canceled, and any IHC or ISH stains will be administered at the pathologist's discretion for an additional charge. Shipping requires a green pathology address label and a pink Immunostain Technical Only label on the container. Electronic orders are necessary for access to digital images.
Limitations
The technical performance only includes the stain without pathologist interpretation, so a separate pathology consultation is recommended for results interpretation. Use caution regarding the age and storage conditions of paraffin sections, as they can significantly impact immunoreactivity. Environmental factors can alter the effectiveness of glass slide charges, consequently affecting staining quality. For optimal results, paraffin sections should be freshly cut within six weeks, and slides should be stored out of humidity and heat.
