CD138 (Syndecan) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD138 is a marker for plasma cells and squamous epithelial cells. It is commonly used in the diagnosis of plasma cell neoplasms, as CD138 is expressed on plasma cells. The test aids in identifying these cells in various tissues, contributing to diagnostic processes for conditions associated with abnormal plasma cell proliferation.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain, without pathologist interpretation. Ensure not to order it with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as the technical component stains will be canceled in such cases. Attach the green pathology address label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label to the outside of the transport container.
Limitations
The test is limited to the technical performance of CD138 staining. It does not include interpretive pathology services, requiring a pathologist's discretion for comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. The quality of staining can be affected by the age and handling of paraffin sections, as well as environmental conditions affecting the charge of glass slides.
