CD15 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The CD15 immunostain is utilized for phenotyping leukemias and lymphomas. CD15 (cluster of differentiation 15) is expressed in granulocytes and can be expressed in malignant lymphomas and acute myeloid leukemias. Reed-Sternberg cells in classical Hodgkin lymphoma typically express CD15 and CD30, making this test valuable in diagnosing and differentiating these conditions.
Special Instructions
This test is for the technical component only and does not include pathologist interpretation. If pathologist interpretation is required, a separate order for a Pathology Consultation (PATHC) is necessary. Technical component-only stains should not be ordered with PATHC, as they will be canceled if ordered together. For digital image access, orders must be placed electronically to view the images online.
Limitations
The CD15 Immunostain, Technical Component Only, does not include pathologist interpretation. It is crucial that interpretation is performed in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist. The test performance may be affected by factors such as age of the paraffin section and the quality of the glass slides, which can alter staining outcomes. Proper storage and handling of slides are essential to maintain staining quality.
