CD23 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for the identification of follicular dendritic cells and in aiding the classification of low-grade B-cell lymphomas. The CD23 antigen strongly stains the cytoplasm and membranes of follicular dendritic cells and the membranes of a subset of follicular mantle zone B-lymphocytes. It provides diagnostic utility in determining B-cell small lymphocytic lymphoma/chronic lymphocytic leukemias, which are typically CD5 positive and CD23 positive. In comparison, mantle cell lymphoma is CD5 positive and CD23 negative.
Special Instructions
This test is intended for technical stain performance only and does not include a pathologist interpretation. For interpretation, it should be ordered with a pathology consultation (PATHC). The test cannot be ordered with PATHC simultaneously; if ordered together, the technical component will be canceled. Attach appropriate labeling (green pathology address and pink Immunostain Technical Only) to the transport container.
Limitations
The test performance may be affected by the age of paraffin sections, as immunoreactivity can reduce over time. Environmental factors such as high humidity and heat can affect the charge of glass slides, possibly altering staining quality. Proper handling and storage are essential to avoid inconsistent staining.
