CD45 Leukocyte Common Antigen (LCA) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD45 is crucial for distinguishing lymphoma and leukemia from other neoplasms due to its high specificity and sensitivity for cells of hematolymphoid lineage. It is primarily used in scenarios where differentiation of hematolymphoid disorders is necessary. However, it should be noted that in classical Hodgkin lymphoma, CD45 expression is typically absent, making it an exception.
Special Instructions
The test includes only the technical component without pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered together with a pathology consultation (PATHC), as the stains will be canceled in that case. The test also provides access to digital images of the IHC stains if ordered electronically.
Limitations
The test does not provide pathologist interpretation, and findings should be contextualized within the patient's clinical history by a qualified pathologist. Variations in glass slide charges caused by environmental factors can affect staining. It's necessary to minimize the storage time of positively charged slides and limit their exposure to high humidity and heat.

Collection Instructions
Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue block or 2 unstained, positively charged glass slides (25- x 75- x 1-mm) per test ordered; sections 4-microns thick.
Storage Instructions
Best practices for storage of positively charged slides include minimization of time stored after being unpackaged and limiting exposure to high humidity and heat.
Causes for Rejection
